    Large Romanian companies are in the mining and industrial sector (35% of gross national product). This specialization is due to Romania's relations with the USSR. One of the best known companies is Dacia (currently owned by Renault). Some regions are specialized in certain sectors of activity.

    Transylvania has natural resources, it has been mining since ancient times. Today, the region mines lignite, iron, manganese, gold, copper, natural gas, salt, sulfur and wood.

    Agricultural activity is important: livestock, wine production and market gardening activities and food industries.
